A gift from my friend and travel writer/photographer Carly Caryn (www.eyeforstyle.net) who recently took a trip to beautiful Austria and brought this tasty sipper back for us.

This special Pannobile countryside has a group of 9 winemakers that put together their wines to represent the area and it’s special quality. The wines can only be made from St. Laurent, Zweigelt and/or Blaufrankish (gazuntite!) which are all indigenous grapes from the region.

The Monster’s Ball (pictured above) that we tasted from Pinnauer was rather soft, had a lovely balance of oak with red fruit and just a great tip of tannin. I’m unsure how many of the wines from ths group makes it out of Austria for us to taste, but this was a terrific example of the beautiful reds Austria can do so well.

Happy Friday!
