Youth and Maturity: both bee-u-ti-ful
Shout out to @AmSommelier and @AndrewFBellWine for an incredibly tasty and educational wine event. This was the 2nd of a 12 part seminar series by the ASA (American Sommelier Association). The topic was “Age, ain’t nothing but a number.” Fun, right? I haven’t had too much experience with contrasting and comparing vintages (or getting them paired with delicious dishes by Aureole’s Chef...

New York Drinks New York →
As an event of the @NYWineGrapeFdn I was excited to attend New York Drinks New York at Astor Center last week! The tasting seminar focused on aromatic whites that came from the three most prominent wine growing areas in New York State: Long Island, Hudson Valley and Finger Lakes. There were two stand outs at the seminar, imho. The first was a Paumanok Chenin Blanc from Long Island. It was slightly...

The Princess and The Pourer: Wine Week from both...
First let me describe National Wine Week in New York It is a week where you can go to a collection of 6 different restaurants for lunch Monday through Friday and taste 10 wines for $10. This means different things to different people. Several years ago, before I was involved in the wine biz, my boyfriend (now husband) and I along with a friend  (my Mom one time) would go and eat (usually a steak)...

comicbookalex asked: Love the blog! One question: there are so many different types of corkscrews out there but does it really make a difference? Am I making a faux pas using a cheap $2 corkscrew I get at the checkout counter of my local liquor store? Is it worth $helling out the bucks to get buy one of those fancy rabbit openers all the kids use these days?

Rude or Righteous? | Drinking Out Loud | News &... →
While I am not as wine savvy as Mr.Kramer, I certianly have had situations like these in my wine life…I think for the most part I would have done the same as him…except asking for a different wine glass. I never thought to do it, but I will now. : )

Wine for All and All for Wine!
Sunday’s Wine Expo at the Javits Center in NYC was packed with many drinkers (as opposed to tasters) so I filed in quickly and efficiently, even getting in and out of there with a free bus transfer for my way back to the East Side. There is always a lot to see and taste, one off the wine path and a lovely surprise to me was the Magners table showing off their new Pear Cider…delicious…and...

Wine Troubleshooting #2: What Should I Buy?
corkshrewd: The Issue For this installment of Wine Troubleshooting, I decided to take on the Herculean task of giving wine buying advice for weary consumers. One of the most common scenarios described to me by clients, friends, and family members who drink wine is the moment of anxious gloom at the grocery store/liquor store/wine store that arrives when the time comes to choose a wine to...

Austria's Sweetest →
I am an Austria-phile. I love the wines from there, especially the Gruner Veltliner and Blaufrankisch that comes out of there. Not many of the sweet ones make it to the USA, but this great little article gives an intro to the best of the sweets from Austria. Have you ever had a sweet wine from Austria?
